28th February 2020 – Terrorism – Run Hide Tell

Hello ?

Terrorism a subject we need to talk about. Action for our protection begins with conversation.

At about 2pm on Sunday 2nd February 2020 in Streatham High Road, in Streatham a man was shot dead by police after three people had been stabbed by him. The police declared it a Terrorist Incident. The man had a device in a bag he also had something strapped to his body. In the last two incidents a fake suicide vest has been worn.

Streatham High Street was not an iconic central london location was a run of the mill busy south london street the terrorist picked this area why? He wanted to kill his own people. Terrorism can come in different forms in any location. Streatham is a place of so many cultures all standing united.

People are asking why here?
⸠ We may never know the why’s
Why now?

We need to be vigilant wherever we are as this has shown. Are we going to let these people make us wary about walking the streets, would we be looking over our shoulders every five minutes? Suspicious of any known or unknown people around us.

We have had several terror knife/weapons incidents in the UK
What to do if you are caught up in one?

Terror attacks seem to be quite frequent but actually they are in decline.

Your own security at work and at home can be prevalent to protecting yourselves and family, co-workers it can deter a fleeing perpetrator from seeking refuge in your property and your cctv can also have relevant information as an aid to the perpetrator(s) identification and direction of advancement and fleeing. By protecting yourselves you are actually protecting and assisting others with a security system.

In America police have an understanding with holders of CCTV system whereby the police can log into their CCTV systems in the local area of an incident and check the recorded video footage to see if there is anything important that may assist them. Now those of you with internal cameras as well as external may be saying you don’t want them looking at your internal cameras, not a problem with professional systems you can pick the cameras that a user can have access to.

The prevention of Terrorism is not just a job for the police but all of us as a community.

The perpetrator of the Streatham attack had 20 officers following him, he bought a knife and launched his attack if systems were connected would they need to allocate so much manpower to one person? Allocation of resources is stretched and meaning others are falling through the net as well.

Government proposes duty to protect public spaces from terror
Security Minister James Brokenshire has announced plans to introduce a law which will require owners and operators of public spaces and venues to put in place measures to keep the public safe from a terrorist attack.
On Monday 22 February the Home Office announced that a consultation will launch in the spring.
Martyn’s mother Figen Murray has been campaigning for Martyn’s Law, businesses like venues will have to look at the risk of a terror attack and proportionate measures. The measures could include physical security and security training the staff of such a premises.

Food for thought people, this does not just apply to Terrorism but to many criminal acts.
